Top 5 Exercices for Biceps

Hey guys...
There are around 650 muscles in our body..but when you hear the word muscle, the first thing that comes to your mind is biceps..isn't it?yes!bulging biceps are every man's dream..here is my list of some great exercises which will pump your guns up..

1.Barbell Curl

This is an exercise you grandpa should have done in his days..but guys, this is still one of the best for muscle mass and strength

       HOW TO DO IT?

Stand with hands supinated, about shoulder width apart.Your elbows should be tucked to the sides of your body and should remain there in the full range of the exercise.Curl the bar until your elbows are fully flexedHold the position for a second.Slowly extend your arms.this is one rep.

      Take care:

-To perform the complete range of motion of your elbows
-NOT to allow your body to lean backwards in momentum

      Tips:

-Use an EZ bar to reduce the strain on your wrists
-Do the reps slowly so that you don't build up momentum

2.Inclined Dumbbell Curls

This exercise rules out the possibility of your body developing momentum and hence, produces maximum tension on your biceps

HOW TO DO IT?

Lie supine on an inclined bench(at around 45 degrees)with your hands hanging down vertically on your side, facing your body. Now curl the dumbbells slowly until your elbow is fully flexed.Remember to supinate your arms as you curl.now slowly come back to the starting position.Do the same in the other hand. This is one rep.

            Take care:

          -To avoid heavy weights
-Don't give strain on your neck.concentrate on biceps

           Tips

-If you keep your arms with palms facing backwards(turned 180 degrees) at the starting position and supinate your hand as you curl,it will involve brachialis(another muscle in your arm) along with biceps, providing even bigger arms.

3.Hammer Curls

In this exercise, the motion of your forearm resembles what you do with a hammer and hence the name. This exercise works on brachioradialis(your forearm muscle)and biceps.

HOW TO DO IT?

Stand with your legs shoulder width apart.keep your hands by the side of your body with palms facing your body.Keep your arm and elbows tucked to the side of your body and keep them so during the entire exercise. Now curl the dumbell, with palm facing your body, until your elbow is flexed at 90 degrees.Hold the position for a second and return to starting position.Do the same with the other hand. This is one rep

      Take care:

-To keep your arms and elbows tucked to your body

     Tips:

-For better results, curl both hands together(which is more tough)
-You can also try this in sitting or inclined positions

4.Concentration Curls

This is an exercise targeting the peak area of the biceps. It isolates biceps and hence provides excellent results.

HOW TO DO IT?

Sit on the edge of a bench with your thighs well apart.Hold the dumbbell in one hand and keep your arm tucked to the inner side of your thigh with palms facing the opposite thigh. Now curl as you do a dumbbell curl.

       Take care:

       -To do the reps slowly.

5.Chin Ups

Although I mention it in the end, this age old exercise is still the undisputed king of biceps exercises..many may find it difficult to do..and i need not mention how to do it..

      Tips:

-Try close grip chin ups for better results

Top 5 Food Myths

Hi friends...
We all eat to live...the problem arises when we live to eat...it is as simple as that...fitness?forget it until you eat right...let us see some popular myths about eating and why they are myths....

1.SKIPPING MEALS HELPS YOU LOSE WEIGHT

Skipping meals may not help you lose weight unless you skip taking food for days(which is very unhealthy)..want to know why?
Whenever you skip a meal, your body goes into a power saving mode,by decreasing your metabolism...and mind you, metabolism is what that consumes the chunk of the calories you take with each meal...so no meal, less metabolism and less calories burned..this is especially true about breakfast, which literally help your body warm up for the entire day's work..
Second, studies have proved that people who skip a meal tend to overeat their next meal..that is,significantly more than they eat when they don't skip a meal..
So friends, eat well to look well...only thing matters is what you eat..you can eat some heavy dishes for a breakfast,be a little mild for the lunch and dinner,as light as possible..

2. FAT FREE=WEIGHT LOSS

People are desperate to loss weight so anything that bears the tag 'fat free' is a hot item int the market? Is fat free=weight loss?a big no
First of all, most of the calories we take each day are not from fats...instead they come from carbs(carbohydrates)..sugar is a simple carbohydrate whereas what we get from cereals are somewhat more complex..fat free or not,at the end of the day, what counts is the calories you take in...so watch out for the carbs too!

3.GLYCEMIC INDEX IS A TRUSTWORTHY INDICATOR

Not at all...although this is a revolutionary concept that helped many diabetics, this can be quiet tricky at times

Glycemic index is a ranking of carbohydrates on a scale from 0 to 100 according to the extent to which they raise blood sugar levels after eating. Foods with a high GI are those which are rapidly digested and absorbed and result in marked fluctuations in blood sugar levels.

So, naturally,a cup of rice is better than sugar with the same calories and fruit juice is better than coke..but the rapidity of absorption of carbs, depends on many factors..presence of fiber, fat etc..so foods which contain more fat have a low GI.Believe it or not,a Mars bar has a lower GI than a piece of watermelon!!!obviously the latter is healthy...so please let your commonsense play its part..

4. EGGS KILL YOUR HEART

Egg yolk is rich in cholesterol...and yes, cholesterol is one of the bad guys that clogs your arteries...but not eating eggs for fear of the cholesterol is missing a super-food loaded with premium protein..studies have proved that a healthy man can take 1 egg a day without increasing the risk of heart disease..because,more than cholesterol,it is trans fats that kills your heart...and egg has NONE of it..and the saturated fat from a large egg is only 10% of your recommended daily in take..and it gives 6 g of protein..mind you,egg albumin is the reference protein(something which is a benchmark for other proteins)so  go...grab your egg..

5.DIET SODAS ARE GOOD

Yeah!true...but only when compared to sugared sodas! you get nothing...literally nothing from a diet sodas..not even energy!and they may give you an acidity..so why waste money on them?grab a lemon juice..it has plenty of vitamin C.Or get some water if you are thirsty!if you really want a soda...then take it..occasionally.
